Introducing Coinperson Voting

No country lets people vote with their money, but today Zcash does.

From December 17 to 29, Zcash holders will decide on Coinholder-Controlled Fund grants in a coinholder-amount voting round, where each vote is weighted by how much ZEC is behind it. During the same window, Zec.rocks will run a parallel poll that counts each person once.

Why

Today, wealth decides the outcome of Zcash coinholder votes, which control at least 78,750 ZEC (about $96 million) of funding, and will control roughly 74,000 ZEC (about $90 million) more once the Deferred Dev Fund Lockbox unlocks. We believe this system doesn't fairly represent small coinholders.

The ZIPs that set up coinholder voting don't yet define who counts as a coinholder. This poll shows what a per-person vote looks like next to the official result, so the community can see where the two agree and where they differ.

The poll is advisory. It doesn't change or replace the coinholder-amount vote.

How it will work

The poll will ask the same questions as the December round. We are currently iterating on ways to verify personhood and welcome community ideas. Before the poll opens, we will publish how we plan to make sure each person responds only once. This first round, like any polling, will be imperfect, but we believe that wealth should not be the only factor that decides the future of Zcash.

Results will be published openly next to the coinholder-amount results.

Get notified

Leave an email, a unified Zcash address, or both. We'll send a message when the poll opens. If you give an email, we'll first send a link to confirm it. If you give an address, announcements arrive as encrypted memos.

Signing up isn't linked to how you vote. Zec.rocks is an independent community project previously funded by both coinholder retroactive funding and Zcash Community Grants.
